I think that....... The drag knob sides are cylindrical and as I cast the line the braid prescribes an acr and when I wind as the bail arm goes over there is enough slack line to allow the 1st loop to wind around the knob ...if I had noticed at this point I could save it but......so it winds around the knob untill there is no more room and then drops down and winds onto the spool as normal, and this really complicates things as trying to get the line off the spool is easy but then trying to unwind braid that has now come off the knob as per pic just doesnt happen, and there is now braid lying all over the place from where I unloaded the spool .
So I now after the cast I wind handle to get the bail arm to go over and then swing the rod back a bit to tighten the line and then wind on as normal . If that drag knob had a bit of taper on the sides it wouldnt happen and being as it chrome plated plastic ( has a metal insert ) trimming a bit off it probly wont work .🙂
Use a braid friendly reel, don’t overfill the spool and manually close the bail after a cast. wind knots go away

😃One thing I can assure you is that I am NOT going to be manually closing the bail....may as well use a hand line.😁
The spool is def not over full ...now as I have lost about 50m of line offa it in the last couple of days and I think it only held about 100m .

No winds to speak of. The breaking waves are the two currents concluding.

“The Point” is formed by the convergence of the warm Gulf stream waters coming up from the South and the cold Labrador current coming down from the north.

One of the holy grails of the surf fishing world. People come from all over the world to fish that Point of land. Fisherman are 3-4 persons deep when the “bite” is on.

In that picture It looks like the bail roller on the reel sits out to far as compared to the spool face allowing line to wrap around that drag knob.
I always set my bail by hand when using a spinning reel, it’s actually the proper way to use it. Setting the bail by reeling puts twist in the line every time you do it. It becomes second nature and actually faster than reeling.

Wel I had a bit of a measure up of my other spinning reels , not all of them but the ratio of spool size to the distance from the roller axis centre line to where the line touches the spool at a tangent is about the same .
I dont understand how you say flipping the bail over manually is the correct way when every single spinning reel I have ever seen does it automatically and as for twisting the line .....yep they do it when you wind on and again tother way when you cast off and any unballance there is why I use swivels ....sometimes two on bigger stuff , like all lures (not Rapala style coz they dont spin ) come with a swivel and I have a snap swivel on the line. On smaller stuff I take the swivel off the lure because the two together are nearly as long as some small lures .
Any hows last night I did the swing back of the rod to tension the line before winding on and I had no issues . Waiting untill the current pulls the line tight works too but then the lure contacts the bottom and comes back with stuff on the hook .
I fished for decades before braid came along and Im thinking I might go back to a good flurocarbon or nylon .
I went to braid mostly to stop line stretching on heavier rigs in deep salt water and sorta morphed it onto my other reels .🙂
