Noise reduction for I/O

I just bought an 18.5 ft Stingray; the engine is much noiser than my Sea Ray. It appears I have two options: (1) Sound insulation on engine cover and (2) Muffler. Is West Marine's option good? Do I mount over the current spray-on sound-proofing? Adhesive or hanger? Any thouhgts on mufflers? Any other suggestions?

Do you have exhaust noise or engine noise? Insulation will make the engine quieter not the muffler.
