Noisy exhaust flappers.

At idle on the muffs, I have random, metal on metal, clanking. I'm positive it's the exhaust flappers.

I did some searching and read that new ones are rubber coated metal and shouldn't make any noise.

Is it difficult to check them myself? This is a new to me boat.

I looked in the adults only section, but didn't find anything about how to check them.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Mine fell right off. Pop rivets were rotten. Cleaned up nicely and popped them back on, see attached. Will see how it goes when I finally get her running again. Good luck.

The shutters shown by mrsaundep above will not rattle. The kind that rattle have a pin they pivot on, and are thin SS covered in rubber. The rubber coating wears off (or gets burned off in an overheat) and they are metal to metal.
As noted by ensign, as long as they are still there, your fine until you feel the urge to fix it.
