I`ve went thru several boat drain plugs&they all leak a little.Lever type leaked, then the T-screw type seems thru center bolt, even when it`s extra tight.Any ideas?

This is a boat question.

Look at the socket or elsewhere. It isn't the plug or the hole in the center of it. The plate on the outside seals that off.

I put water in boat, and watched from outside. You can see water drip from center screw of plug on T handle type.I have the other lever type so tight, you can barley get it in the hole.I`ve bought several of both types. This is a new Alumacraft jon boat.

How about just a plain old plug with a square end for a wrench????

This is really a mystery. Wonder if these same plugs would leak on any other boat? I gotta say, based solely on the info provided, *operator error* is the only cause that comes to mind. ;) Are you buying them all at the same Dollar General or Big Lots store?

You didn't by any chance rename this boat, did you?

I agree.. With that box end plug it may help to wrap the threads with teflon tape before you install it. Make sure that your threads are clean. You should be good to go. Good luck and ....dont sink!

I'm not sure but i think you should put the lever type in loose then tighen it once in the hole that way its easy to put in and you can get it as tight as you need it. its gonna be hard to put in if you have it tight. i know my lever plug from walmart does not leak.

Internet`s been out.I`ve bought the plugs at a couple different places.I haven`t seen the plugs that use a wrench.I`ll look around, though.Plug that came with boat leaked,I finally broke it.

I tightened 2 T screw plugs where they would barely go in,covered in boat side with silicone, problem fixed.
