If a thread goes on too long many get bored seeing it and want it to just die at some point.

PM messages are great if you want to continue the subject privately with out boring others.

You will notice some members have "I don't respond to PM's". This is because your particular question might be of interest to many others (Also, a search does not turn up a question answered in a PM message).
So if it's done by PM and answered, others will at some point ask the same question over and over. Especially at the start of boating season . . .

Questions like:
"Whats the best oil to use for my outboard?"
"What year is my outboard?"
"Whats the best battery out there?"
"How much weight should my trailer tongue measure on the trailer hitch ball?"

A simple search will pop these answers from other threads (from a huge database) where these same questions have been answered many times. Best part of search is you get an instant answer since you don't have to wait for somebody to respond.
After you locate a thread with an some answer scroll down to the bottom of the same thread and it will show links to other similar threads.

Since now you appear to be the new and improved Tubtoy . . . Then welcome "again" to iboats

I too , have a problem with this site, i will set down for a few minutes, and HOURS LATER

I am not addicted,just need a life .
I rarely check my email, I think one day I may actually clear my PM box and the last time I actually carried my cell phone was a few weeks ago and then only cause I was going fishing. it was turned off of course.
I deal with technology daily and grow to hate the bother more and more each day.
but years ago some of the mods here warned me about posting email address and telephone numbers.
yes there is still on odd thread or two out there that still may have them, I tried to go back and delete them all.
dunno about them bubble heads, what with breathing recycled fart gasses and all .

Tubtoy, don't sweat it most won't hold it against you. Just a personal note about the E-Mail deal. If I were you I would not put my E-Mail address any where on here. Like has been said it is for you're protection, there are programs out there known as web crawler looking for that sort of thing. The next thing yah know you're in box is full of junk mail, kinda like the junk mail you get by the postman, just some on the PC might be carrying a virus.

Exactly. iboats has no interest in being a harvesting ground for valid email addresses. Not only the spam emails...but you can bet it would attract even more spammy posts.

BTW, email notification appears to be fixed. If any of you reported a post and nothing was done, that was the reason.

Maybe better put: If you click the little triangle thingy to report a post, it will actually be reported now. That was dead for a about a week . . . Thread and PM email notifications should all work now as well if you have selected those options. Thanks iboats team!

Hmmmm, every thing works fine here, thanks to Safari.
Also find it hard to believe you would get any spam if you posted your email address on here.

2 of my addresses have been posted here, numerous times. They are also posted on many other sites. I get minimal spam, maybe 3 per week. I guess if you have a good mail service, and use a decent mail program, all the problems go away.

They would be "mobileme", "mail", and "Safari" as the browser.

I've been so busy with my new project boat, '74 Glastron CV16, that I hadn't really been on here much and I check my emails and they're overflowing
