Hey there
I have a 1993 Maxum 1700SR and the fuel gauge just reads empty at all times. Wondering if its the gauge or the sensor?

Probably.

Do you have a voltmeter? You'll have to take some readings so we can diagnose it.

I like to trouble shoot the ez stuff first. If you have access to the sender just jump the sender to the ground at the tank and turn key on. If that gives you a full tank its the sender. If not do the same on the back of the gauge jump sender terminal to ground and turn key on. if you have 12 volts to the gauge and a good ground your gauge will read full unless it is bad.

Re: Non working Fuel Gauge

I got tired of not knowing how much gas was in my tank so I drilled 2 holes in the tank. 1 near the top and 1 near the bottom. I installed 2 long metal valve stems (the ones used on big truck tires) bent them 90 deg. so they face each other and put some clear chemical resistent hose between them. Now I can see how much gas is in the tank. Helps when filling up. No more splashing gas on the boat. You have to remove the valve core in the stems for this to work.
