Re: non-working gauges

Missed the "digital" part of this discussion. Sorry.

Silvertip, I owe you an apology. I have never seen a recent 4S Yam installed with regular analog gauges, therefore I made an incorrect assumption that they were the Yamaha digital gauges usually associated with this install. My sincerest apology, I hope you accept it.

Re: non-working gauges

First of all I apologize for not telling you all the kind of gauges we're dealing with. The boat came equipped that way when we purchased it in 2004.

I put a meter to the tach and fuel gauge and it shows 12V on both. The tach did not move from its current reading. Fuel gauge is all the way to E. Now what?

Fajsam,
Assuming you measured the voltage across the I and G terminals on your gauges with the ignition in the run position, start your motor and check the voltage on on the wire hooked up to the S position on the tach (I think it's green). you should see about 5.5VDC.

Re: non-working gauges

You guys done with me or stumped? Apparently I need to do more to test the fuel sender? First, i would need to find it on our 23 ft Nautic Star Deck Boat and then what? I think were getting close so don't give up on me yet :) Would it be easier to go ahead and remove the tach and fuel gauge to have them tested and or replaced? found one on line for $7.00 .

Re: non-working gauges

FYI, I ran a new wire from the sending unit and a new ground to the gauge and have success. Apparently there was in issue with both as I did each one independent of each other and only worked with both new connections. Should have tried that first!!

side note... prior to this fix the radio would go off when the docking lights were turned on and now that does not happen. Hope this helps someone else in the future.
