Hi everybody! Just introducing myself as a new member. I'm from CT

Although I'm on second boat I still consider myself somewhat new to boating. I spend my water time on the Connecticut river and Long Island Sound.

My first boat was a nasty old beat up Maxum cuddy cabin. The interior was shot. It had a 125 Force outboard that barely ran, didn't charge, tilt was about as use full as a wet noodle (reverse was interesting). Basically an all around wreck. Sold it.

Last year I got an 82 Chris Craft 210 Scorpion w/ a 1999 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro. It has been sitting for a long time but has a lot more potential than the Maxum ever did. today I brought it to the shop so I can do some work to it tomorrow. With any luck I can get it in the water on Sunday.

I have a couple questions but will direct them to the appropriate sections.

I'm a car guy by nature and am active on a couple car forums so I know how a forum works and don't for-see having any problems fitting in.

Welcome to iBoats.

Post some pictures of your new-to-you boat, and let us know how your first few outing go. You are a few steps ahead with car maintenance experience . . . boats are not all that much different. Navigation and boating safety are probably the bigger things to know.

Re: Noob intro

Thanks! Yea I'm going to take a few pics today. After dealing with the fiasco of a blown out wheel bearing on the trailer yesterday on the way in, I wasn't in the mood to show anything off.

Some pics may be good though so someone can help me with how to classify what "style" of boat I have. It seems like a cuddy cabin, but the cuddy is very small I think to make room for a large outside deck. Its all fiberglass with no fluffy carpet or padding. Better in my opinion for longevity and cleaning. The previous owner used it for fishing.

Sounds like a "Walkaround" to me (pics would be telling, of course). I do know that some Scorpions were "walkarounds".

Re: Noob intro

So we got it in the water yesterday. She ran good! Some things work some things don't. But I suppose its to be expected for an old boat. While we were out it started raining for a bit pretty good. I was glad to have the canvas top. Some wipers would have been nice but I'll take what I can get for now. Possibly something to look into later on when I get the other quirks ironed out.

The only real issue I had was that she didn't like to idle. That made pulling into the launch at the end of the day interesting. Also the hitch is way too high on my fathers truck that made loading and unloading a pit of a pain.

Also, my own stupid fault, I hit a rock with the prop and mangled it up pretty good. Apparently I was too far outside the channel at the mouth of the river. Luckily I have 2 spares that came with the boat.

Found out in the heavy rain that the sliding hatch for the cuddy leaks pretty good. Probably why the inside smells damp and moldy from the years.

Here are a couple pics. The boat is a dirty mess in the pics. We spent a a few minutes cleaning after I took the pics but I was more concerned with getting the mechanicals in working order and getting it on the water to she how she went.
