Hey, well this week end, i will be going to look at a boat. Now I wont lie, I do not know much about what to look at when looking at a used boat. I have been around boats for a while now but they have all been I/O's and the one I'm looking at is a O/B.

Some details: The boat is a 89 Charger with a 150 merc o/b. Supposed to be in mint shape. Is there anything in particular I should be looking at? I can usually always tell a rotted floor from a solid one. The main concerns I have are floor and transom rot. I am not looking to buy a project boat, but from what I've been told it's all perfect, but we all know how far that goes.

Any tips from you pro's? I don't want to end up like the guy on the forums who's being sued because of the boat he sold.

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: "Noob" questions

rubber mallot rap the transom, thud is soft wood, rap is solid wood. raise the motor, watch the transom while you shake hell out the motor up and down, any flex, get in the car and leave.

motor, compression test, spark test, check lower oil for water. check wiring for cracking, deterioration. older mercs are known for cracking wires.

then test drive it.

I was going to say raise the engine and stand just above the prop and jump up and down while looking at the transom it,
