That is what this thread will be.
First I have to figure out how to get the #&*$(#! impeller into the housing.

The impeller, just set it on the wear plate.
Put grease on the vanes.
Push the housing down on the impeller, turn the shaft as you push.
The impeller will just slide up inside the housing.
Don't worry about the direction of the vanes, they'll orient when the motor starts the first time.

You hit the nail on the head there, I worry a lot when I do new things.
I finally just jammed it into the housing.

Write up coming soon.

OK, I finally found the card adapter I needed.
Here is the real write up.
First thing, I have never pulled a lower unit off an outboard before and will tell you it is not all that hard (despite some problems I had).
First thing you need to do is remove the bolts holding the thing on (after tilting the motor up).
Here they are:
lower unit.jpg

But wait, there's more!
You also need to remove the hidden bolt under the antideuncavitation thingy.

Also, you need to pull the cotter pin from the shift linkage here:
cotter pin.jpg

Now the lower unit should slide right down.

Now there are some parts you nitce fell out when you slid the lower unit off.
That can't be good, right?
Well, don't panic. Your buddy John will tell you where they go.

The grommet goes at the top of the drive shaft and the round thingy is what the shift linkage goes through and gets the cotter pin (remember?).

OK, now that you got that situated you are looking at the top of your lower unit insides and see the water pump housing, yes?

5 bolts.
I think 4 of them were 1/4" and the other like 5/16 or something.
Pull them out and remove the housing.

OK, once you get the can off another piece will fall out. It is the key for the impeller to the drive shaft. It is pretty easy to figure out where it goes on the flat of the shaft. Here is a picture:
key.jpg
Pull the old impeller out and then jam the new one in. It is tight so just jam it.
About this time I was getting a little frustrated so the pictures kind of stop but once you get the impeller in the can just reinstall.
Keep in mind there is a tab on the top of the impeller can that fit at nine o'clock on my unit. You will see. Make sure you get it lined up properly. Also, the housing itself gives you the torquing values for it. I thought this was a nice touch.

Put everything back together and reassemble in the reverse order.
If the lower unit is in forward you can spin the prop to align the splines on the drive shaft when you try to mate it.
At least this is what I did and hope it didn't screw anything up.
Also, make sure you get that shift linkage thingy lined up. And USE A NEW COTTER PIN! I reused mine and wasted 10 minutes to save a nickle. Plan ahead and get a new pin.

Re: Noob's Force 150 impeller swap with pics

Whilst doing this I noticed a gap between the outboard mounting and the transom.
Got it tightened up.

Also, after the engine was tilted all the way up it would not come back down unless pushed.
Is this where I would check the hydraulic fluid:
tiltpump.jpg

Finally, here is the bottom of the tall skinny hydraulic pump:
tiltpumpbottom.jpg

Hoping the tilt master on here will tell me this is the bulletproof Eaton set up.

Anyway, thought I would do this write up to help the next noob.
After looking at the pictures I am sure I didn't put the grease seal and grommet on correctly and will have to pull it apart again but it should go a lot faster.

Don't be scared of doing this.

By the way, here is where I screwed up (and it is even funnier because I had a picture if I would have thought about it).
When I was re-installing the lower unit and it wouldn't mate (one of several attempts before I figured out to spin the prop) pulled it back out and an additional piece fell out. Here is the picture:
grommet.jpg

The little silvery thing at the bottom is what I assume is an oil seal and it hit the deck.
In my frustration, I ASSumed it went on top of the grommet and that is where it is now in the bowels of my motor.
I am further ASSuming this needs to be fixed before I fire it up???

Either way I feel dumb as Hell for not putting it back in properly after taking a picture of it.

Well you did pretty good. Like Jerry says, the silver washer or what ever you want to call it just prevents the rubber boot from sliding down the shaft towards the water pump. Seen many lower units that were missing one or another or both. Didn't seem to affect anything.

I thank you for the offer to help too. Very kind.

Now, would you drop the lower unit again and fix the grommet thing or just run it?
