Norcold fridge problem cont.

Hey all,

Last year I posted about problems I was having with the thermostat in my Norcold fridge in this thread:

So far, I haven't had any luck finding a new replacement thermostat. Does anyone have any recommendations for places that sell parts salvaged from old boats/RV's? So far I've tried PPL & AAARV online. I'm loathe to spend $6-800 on a new fridge when all it needs is an $80 part.

Thanks Glenn. I have the parts list & the part # I need, but haven't had any luck finding a place with it in stock. I sent off an email inquiry to 3RRV though. I phoned another place in AZ & they asked me to send them a pic of the thermostat. These places are RV salvage joints & I imagine there weren't that many with that small a fridge.

Not a norcold, but I used to have a fridge in my camper,bad trermostat. All I did was go to a scrapyard,took a thermostat from a different fridge and installed it. Worked perfect. All a thermostat does is moniter the inside temp and run it to your setting. I dont really think they are all that much different from brand to brand,just different knob and mabe mounting but operate the same. Worked for me! My brother in law did the same thing in his house when

I did,worked for him to.

You can just use a universal "cold control" . I see there are 3 Johnstone Supplys in CT. They sell a lot of universal controls under the Gemline brand. The counterman can help you select. Just be sure to securly mount the sensor bulb like the original.

Thanks tdshepard, there's a Johnstone pretty close to me but it says they only sell wholesale. I do know a guy who works for an HVAC company though, so perhaps I can work it from that angle.

I just noticed that the cold controls they have seem to all be 120v. Hmmm...

Grub, there's a junkyard nearby, but I don't think they have any RVs there. When I was looking online, it seems like there are a bunch of them out west. I guess RVs are more popular out there & the desert climates are probably better for scrapyards.

Ya know after
I thought about it,mine was 110 volt fridge,operated with gas also. I suppose there are 12 volt ones out there. Or are all of em cut to 12 volts at the thermostat? Hmmm... Never really thought about it.

The control is just a switch. It doesn't care about volts and the ones at Johnstone will have an amp rating well higher than your application. The control makes on temp rise and breaks on a certain differential. The Johnstone counterman can help you choose.....

Stg44, mine didnt come out of an rv fridge,just an old fullsized one. Anyway, tdshepard is right,voltage don't matter.
