I have a 89 OMC with a Chevy 4.3 V6.

1) I removed the starboard drain plug yesterday and about a half-gallon of water came out (the exhaust manifolds were already drained). I next removed the port side plug and nothing came out. I spent about five minutes poking around in the drain hole with a coathanger and screwdriver, but nothing came out. The plug that didn't drain did previously have a small leak. Is it ok that no water came out of the port side plug?

2) I can't get the screws off of my sterndrive to drain it. They seem to be stuck and the head is starting to strip. Any suggestions?

Re: Normal Water Drain for OMC V6

For the block drain that didn't let any water out I would hook up a hose to the T-Stat housing (where the hose from the outdrive attaches) and fill the block again to see if you get some water to drain out, could be a blocked passage. For the drain screws on the outdrive, I've had that problem and ended using a very large screw driver and hitting it square on a few times with a hammer and that did the trick.

you can pour some lowtox a/f into the hose at the front of the manifold and make sure it runs out the drain ****....

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention that right now, I have my engine apart to replace the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds. Will try to test as you mentioned when everything is back together.
