Assination won't stop the worlds nuclear problem. The Nuclear cat so to speak has been out of the bag since WWII. Nine countries have it, five or so want it, and a few could do it if they wanted to. It is only a matter of time before someone develops or more likely buys a nuke and uses it.

Just my dark position.

Nukes are not a problem in the hands of those that fear dying. The radical muslims embrace death.

My only concern is, Kim Jong Il will sell a nuke to the radicals.

He will enjoy the suffering, but knows he will probably come out unscathed.

He is a meglomanic, and will do everything for attention/money, but wont do anything to jepordize his life.

I am for economic sanctions on his neighbors, as he is nothing more than the taunting stick to the US. Without the backing of China and Russia he is nothing. Of course the French are always available to do whatever is not in the best interest of the USA. If we are going to sell out our economy to these clowns we ought to get something for it.

I know this will sound like an alien idea but how about trying to win over the masses?
when the food aid and medical aid is delivered it should be done by US aid workers and everything and everyone has big red white and blue stars and bars with bold USA lettering.
we can beam radio and sttilite feeds into NK telling the civilians how much food and medical aid is waiting and all we need is permision to fly.
let the pressure become internal instead of external.
we cannot and never will be able to beat democracy into any society, we must show them that our way is better.
wil we take a few on the chin? most assuredly, however Ali took a few as well. but perserverance and internal resistance will work a lot better than any war.

and by the way, calling for an asasination of any head of state is punishible under federal law.
Pat robertson got away with it I wont try it.
heck even wille got away with 1 1/2 pounds of demon weed but I would not try it.
but if the poor are eating off paper plates with USA on the bottom using utensils with USA on the sides while trating their childrens maladies with medical and dental supplies with USA written all over it you will find the average civilian would like our ways better than their leaders ways.
its working with the poor here in VE.
while the clinics in the barrios are staffed with cubans and the conditions are primitive by US standards its 100% better than anything they have had in the past. so who do you think they support ?

SEOUL (CNN) -- Scientific analysis of an explosion in North Korea is raising questions about Pyongyang's claim that it carried out a successful underground nuclear test on Monday.

U.S., French, and South Korean atomic and geological analysts have confirmed a sub-kiloton explosion occurred, but there is no data to back up North Korea's claim of a nuclear detonation.

French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said the size of the blast could show that it was "not an extremely powerful explosion or ... that there could have been a failure." (Posted 1:39 p.m. )

Yup. It appears that they may have had a "fizzle".
Failed ICBM launch and now a failed nuke. I'm guessing some more NK scientist are getting roasted over the coals tonight. Probably literally. :0

Edit: For some slightly morbid fun, try out this Nuclear effects simulator. For reference the NK test would be about .5-1KT.

rodbolt, I agree with you in pricipal, and I agree with your reasoning, but you know Kim Jong Il wont ever let that happen.

Neither will any of these other meglomanic dictators.

They dont care if the masses all die, as long as he keeps his supporters close and well fed.

Hang on a sec, some guys in dark suits and glasses are knocking on my front door. See ya in 20 years! :'(

Re: North Korea performs underground nuclear test

Reality check!!
The force of the explosion was only 0.5 kiloton or 5 thousand pounds of TNT,the same size as a bunker buster.
The very first plutonium bomb that the USA tested and the one that was dropped on Hiroshima were 21 kilotons.....
Is this a nuclear explosion or a nuclear hoax??
The only nation with the power to squash North -Korea without actually going to war is China.They supply 90 % of its energy and 45% of its food.And the Chinese are very unhappy about the North Koreans peeing in the face of its main customer;
I think the Chinese will take care of this little country in the proper way,all we have to do is stand by the side lines and cheer the chinese on.

ken, I tend to agree with that anylisis, the meglomaniacs dont care, thats why the pressure needs to be internal not external.
human nature is about the sme acrossed all creeds colors and religions. you tend to support whoever helps and aids your children. however the only thing a lot of these nations have, other than represive govt,s is ntional pride.
its all that is left. if we invade they will fight to the last, if we use aid for internl presures they will eventually toss the yoke, the key is to keep corruption out of it.
the Iraqi debacle is a learning tool on corrupt contractors.
thing is will we learn the lesson ?

I think we should all be happy.

I believe it was Madeline Albright (Clinton Admin. Sec. State) that thought that the US as a sole nuclear power was- "lopsided and unfair"

I guess their wishes are finally coming to fruition.

A kiloton is a thousand tons no? That would mean a 0.5 kiloton bomb is 1 million pounds of TNT not 5,000. That's a little more than a bunker buster. A formidable weapon none the less.

Re: North Korea performs underground nuclear test

.......So you hold GW accountable for the recent events?......What exactly could GW have done that would have us and NK singing Christmas carols together this upcoming Holiday?
I only hold Bush accountable for what is his. And that leads to what should have been done 2-3 years ago.
We needed to remind the world that when we commit our military to war we fight to win. We kill, maim, burn, slaughter, and "grease the treads of our tanks with the guts of our enemy". We display the competence to accomplish the mission, we accept nothing less than unconditional surrender from the enemy as they crawl to kiss our boots for mercy.
Only after that, we pull them to their feet and welcome them to the family of man.
Had this been done Bin Ladin's head would have been offered on a silver platter. Iraq would be well on it's way to economic recovery. Iran, Syria, would be volunteering to disarm and there would be nary a single peep from NK.
Instead we have every tin horned dictator from S. America to N. Korea flickin' boogers at us and I don't like it one bit.

So yes, it seems that voting for "the lessor of two evils" has finally caught up with us.
And there isn't even a white knight on the horizon gonna come in to save the day.

And of course with all the whole hearted support of the liberals behind our President and this Counties policies, it's no wonder the "tin pot dictators of the world" are flicking boogers at us.

Put the blame where it really belongs... a Country divided (by dirty partizan politics) is already half way to defeat.

Thanx for nothing Jack ass’s

Re: North Korea performs underground nuclear test

Well we sure share a lot of similar disdain for the state of affairs Skinnywater.I'm just not convinced that there is any specific rational act that the current administration could have done to curtail this Kim Jong mentality.Sure the US could crush NK like a bug.The trouble with that is the uncertainty of exactly who stands with the US in its mission to shut this creep down.Namely China. They really hold the trump card on this one.Hopefully they'll choose to play it.But at what price? While rational negotiations look good on paper,we must remember that we're not dealing with rational thinking when it comes to NK.It seems that regime change is the only solution. How to go about it without global support is the problem. We shouldn't have to coax China to get involved. They're either a neighbor on watch or one that chooses to turn a deaf ear.China is supposedly adamently opposed the NK's intentions.Let's see if they step up to the plate.

If the US is to regain some respect in this world though ,all of this partisanship crap needs to cease. These radicals are preying on that weakness.
