Went to an auction sale today because there was an aluminum boat for sale. I am kinda looking for a 12 to 14'for a small lake a short ways away from where we live. Waited and watched for 4 hours while boxes and boxes of junk sold. Get to the boat it is and early 80's Delta Marine 16' three seat fisheman with a 40hp Johnson, no tail lights on the trailer, gear oil running down the skeg on the motor and raw fuel leaking out the carbs. Interior was in pretty good shape. I figure a $1000.00 boat at the most. First thing the auctioner says is fire it up, so they start it, no muffs, gas starts to drip out through the prop. Opening bid $1500.00. Proud new owner paid $4400.00, they are born everyday, I wish I would of saved Ole Blue for this auction!!

That's one of the problems with live auctions. Peeps over bid cause they look at taking the bid is a win. Not for this one from the sounds of it.

dII - Hopefully a few of those boxes of junk (treasure) came home with you at a better deal than that boat. Never know what's going to happen at an auction. Can't believe they fired it up w/o muffs or a barrel.

Been to quite a few auctions over the years and have been astounded at the ignorance of the actual auction company when it comes to knowing about the items for sale.
As soon as they fired her up dry, my bid would have been five bucks, lol

Man, that's some serious cash!

Yah, I've been to a few auctions, don't go anymore as I've been amazed at how much people will pay for stuff. I think they see it as a competition type thing. I also was seeing the same people show up at all the auctions. I think it's a hobby or a lifestyle for many, bidding and buying stuff that they will prolly never even use. But, they have the dough to do it so have fun I say. For me, I don't even bother with em anymore.

That's a ton over value!! I've gone to a couple auctions, seems to take FOREVER to get to anything good.

First auction I've been to in 20 years, prolly the last as well. Did come home with a real nice HD skill saw for $20 and a new set of
1/2"drive impact sockets for $15.

$4400. Unbelievable. I can't believe the number of people that show up for these auctions. Had one recently at this run-down property near me and there had to be 75 cars there.

Good that it wasn't a total waste of time. I would be PO'ed if I spent 4 hours with nothing to show for it.
