Well, I pulled the boat out of the barn so I could get the old AC mower out, and then went to back it back in, couldnt see well using my S-10 with the topper. I usualy use something else to pull with. Anyway, I clipped the corner of the oak stall door with my rear corner, messed it up. See the pics. Of all the boneheaded, numbskulled.............:mad::( I just hope I didn't do any internal damage to the transom, bend something or warp it. Doesnt look like it though. I caught the corner and it gouged the wood corner of the door opening and forced its way past, so not a dead stop, or hit.

So, for the fixing of it. I guess I should just replace the whole corner piece. I thought about trying something that welds or repairs aluminum, but if I can find a replacement corner, I'd rather do it up right. Trouble is, I've never done rivets before, I'm pretty handy, (if you don't count today;) ) how hard can it be? Drill em out and pick up a rivet tool. What type? What kind of rivets?

JB weld, I thought of that, or something called Dura Fix, but you need to apply a propane torch, no prob if I remove it first, I guess If I could get away with not removing it though, that would be great. So the JB Weld doesnt look so good or what?

Just drill out the rivits and it will come off. A rivit tool is about $50. Use Alum rivits to go back, its easy. Check with a welder about welding it. He would have all the tools to take it off and weld it and rivit it back on.

I had a guy (friend) weld my bow rail back together where the PO thought it was a good idea to cut it in 3 places for a trolling motor. You cant hardly tell were it was welded, great job and he wouldnt let me pay him either.

If you figure getting it welded price to buying new, buying a rivit tool, rivits.
Or just JB weld it and rock it for awhile.

JB Weld is just hard to work with and it sets awfully quick. So you gotta work it quickly :)

Good idea!!!

OR, you can combine both of these ideas .... If you don't feel like having it welded, JB weld the INSIDE, then you will just see a small seem on the outside. You can either use clear gasket sealant or the like to really protect it :)

I would not put heat to it while on the boat I would worry about the paint. alum gets hot fast and may cause problems. JB Weld

I would use some under water epoxy putty called "water weld" work it in .let dry and sand smooth .Then a liitle metal paint and only you will ever know what happined..Cheap but solid fix. This stuff works great . I filled in a hole about 2 inchs square with it on my engines foot and its holding tight.

get a stick on ruler with the fish slot sizes... or a flame bumper sticker.... and if ya stick it on in a tacky enough way, you should be able to cover that eyesore up! put an idential one on the other side to even it up! :)

Red Green would use duct tape. it's gray, and metal looking...

I bet that could be tig welded in place without the heat bothering the paint. Talk to a good welder. Still be probably cheaper than a rivit tool..

Best repair would be remove old corner, buy a new corner if available, and rivet it back on. A good pop-rivet tool is never wasted $$.
Try Starcraft for a new corner.

Yep my vote goes to fixing it the right way and no one will ever know it ever happened. I bet they charge a good price for the replacement one but it will look great.

I've emailed the above link and asked them about a possible replacement, even sent a picture along. So, I'll see what they come up with. Thanks.

Re: Not a trick, but pretty stupid, my poor Starcraft

are you referring to the TV show??? The Big Red Green show?

I remember the Red Green show well. It was on PBS.
Absolutely the best show on tv.

tmfd, don't feel too bad. I did something...er, uh, my buddy, yeah, that's it, my buddy did something like that once. Backed into the garage between the over head and walk door. Knocked it right off the foundation:eek:.
Nothing a really big sledge hammer didn't fix.:D The boat on the other hand, well,

I thought Starcraft parts were un-available. I dont know the brand. I agree if the parts available buy it!

BTW - I have several rivet tools.

Personally anything is better to me than JB weld. It has it's place as the LAST resort.

A prop repair shop will be able to fix that also, props are aluminum also.

Re: Not a trick, but pretty stupid, my poor Starcraft

I used the email link but the emails got returned twice, so I dont know about contacting Starcraft. I'll probably end up pulling it off and having it welded, at least I have the chunk. My only worry is that I've never worked with rivets before and will have to obtain the right tools.
