What do you do when the cops won't bother to come out and no tresspassing signs are there to sight your scope in on. You get tired of cleaning up other peoples trash piles and hearing shots in your back yard when no one is susposed to be back there. We ran the cable about 8 feet off the main road, about 2 1/2 feet off the ground and put flags on it. Like I said, it worked alot better than signs full of holes, After all you can't set there 24/7 and nobody can stop you from locking up your property,,,,ANIMAL :D

I hear you Animal, it's just that I don't want anyone dead or paralyzed, even if they are surplus to the species' needs, and I sure don't want to get sued by the survivors of one of these doofuses after he chops his fool head off on a cable that I put across the road, even across a road that is MINE alone and no doofuses should be there.

I had to sue my deadbeat neighbor a couple of years ago, when he started using a road that was only mine to access his place from the logging road. It cost me $3000 to push that jerk back over on his side of the line. At one point, I told my lawyer that i should have spent the money hiring a trackhoe to take out the road in question and he bascially told me that after the idiot drove into the hole I made, I would still need a lawyer, just a more expensive one to defend against the lawsuit that the "victim" would bring against me for making it dangerous to trespass on my land. He was right.

And I hear you about the cops too. They came out here when the guy first started freaking out and taping off my land with survoyor's flags. My line with him was already surveyed, marked and recorded, but the deputies refused to "take sides" and referred me to the court system, instead, where it took me $2200 in legal fees, $800 of new surveying work and a YEAR to get back what was already mine. And I think I was lucky in that my lawyer wasn't too expensive or shady, and that my case was so obvious that even the other guy's lawyer started trying to convince him to drop it early on.

So in that light, jerks who litter and illegally hunt on my land are certainly a drag, but not the worst kind of drag there could be.

I had the same problem except the neighbor also put up a fence. Cops didn't want to do anything even when I showed them the monuments said I had to sue in court. I had called the state attorney's office earlier so when the cops said there was nothing they could I told them to get a complaint form because I was going to file one. They still refused until the state attorney called them and told them they had no choice but to accept the complaint and make an arrest. Doing this kind of thing in FLA is considered theft and can be prosecuted. Don't always take a cops word for what the law is. They often don't know themselves (except for the more common crimes) and often will tell you things because they don't want to do the work.
