Not another prop selection thread

Hello, I have a 16ft ski boat, that weighs about 800lbs dry.

It has a 110hp Johnson with a 13.25 X 17 prop.

It currently does about 52-53mi/hr at 5000 rpm.

Both the boat and motor have limited hours on them, are in mint condition, but were made in 1988 (it's been in the family since new).

I would like to replace the prop with a stainless, and would like to pick up some mph without losing too much holeshot ( A tall order from what I gather). The boat right now will easily pull two adult slalom water skiers.

I am looking at a 13 3/8 X 19 or a 13 3/8 X 21 prop.

What do you all think would be the best fit?

Re: Not another prop selection thread

You should read the stickies at the top of the page and the helps on the prop store page.Assuming the tach is accurate(?)increasing pitch will lower rpm "about" 200 per inch of pitch increase increase.Your allready a little too low, but I suspect your tach.
You may want to varify your tach is accurate.without knowing the gear ratio;53 mph with a 17 at 5,000 doesn't seem right. Is the speed by gps?
It also seems your rpm would be higher with that prop on a 16.What year is the 110?

Re: Not another prop selection thread

I had the boat out yesterday:

On the GPS it's running 53mi/hr at 6000 rpm.

The motor is a 110 Johnson built in 1987. The boat is 16ft, weighing 1100lbs with motor.

Using the prop calculator, and assuming a similar propeller slip, if I change to a 19 pitch, it shows the boat should get close to 58mi/hr.

I am looking at a stainless Ballistic by Michigan Wheel. Does anyone have any experience with these props?

Can I also assume that when switching from aluminum to stainless that the prop slip ratio will imrove, since stainless is supposed to be more efficient?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
