Bottom all riveted together, sanded and primed. My goal is to paint it by Sunday morning as we are leaving for a week camping, so when I come back the paint should be pretty hard.

I also made the new transom, and since all my plywood from Lowes isn't 3/8" 1/2" and so on, iit's what, 11/32, and 15/32? I had to experiment to get close as I could to 1 1/2", so 3 layers of 3/8" and one of 1/2" and it was right on. I epoxied them together, I will then sand and coat the entire thing in epoxy.

Got some black on it, maybe tomorrow if the black is dry enough to tape I'll get some blue on it. Then it will sit for 8 days. It turned out pretty good, the bottom is pretty rough from sitting in the water during the summers, but the hull sides are pretty nice. The bow turned out pretty well. My second time spraying Rustoleum with hardener in it. This is two coats, Used an entire quart, I have another quart, should I do more?

Man, I only wish my admiral was interested in the bucking bar business. She lived a spoiled childhood and I'm still trying to unlearn that (currently working on a camper van that she was less than impressed with).

You're making really fast progress at 14 hours. I like it! Any chance you can full-size all of your flicker photos?

That blue looks really nice. I like that shade. It will contrast nicely with the black.

The second coat went on so nice, I'm stopping there. No more progress for a week, we are going camping. Wish we were taking the boat! But it's a family vacation, 5 families, 4 boats will be there. That will give the paint some time to cure, it's Rustoleum with hardener in it so it will take less time than usual, but still takes awhile. Last thing I painted this way was a motorcycle tank and that turned out really well, but never got as durable as a true 2 part. But I thinned that with acetone alone and I think it's too aggressive and made it too brittle, easy to chip. This time I followed this guide I linked below.

I think tractor enamel is pretty much the same thing, I was at Tractor Supply today to buy propane, reducer, more hardener and they had a really nice selection of colors but they were all muted colors, I already had the paint but their majic line works with Rustoleum. They even had clear. I used Rustoleum safety blue. I used a Harbor Freight HVLP gun at about 50psi. From what I read their gun isn't really an HVLP so it needs a bit higher pressure. It took some fiddling with the settings to get it right.

I should also note that I have a large 30 gallon compressor and it was barely able to keep up. I would do one side of the boat and the pressure in the compressor would go from 140 down to 80. I think anything smaller would really struggle. Anything gas powered or 220v would be fine but this compressor is probably the biggest thing you can run on 110. It's supposed to be 3.3hp but anyone that knows anything about electricity knows that's bull, lol.

I inherited a stand-up tank... Must be a 55 gallon tank and the motr is oilless I believe.

For the size I wasn't impressed either. The thing's always kicking on and off until it trips my 15 amp breaker. I ordered a new regulator to give it a wider on/off limit but I haven't installed yet. I don't know if your model is adjustable but it might help?

I have used acetone and paint thinner to cut my oil based paints I was spraying. Some company?s even sell their own reducer to thin out before spraying.

I used a HVLP gun from HF for many years on different projects. You can?t beat them for one use projects. I finally upgraded to a Earlex 5500 and it is a night and day difference. Overspray can be almost nonexistent depending on what you are spraying. One of the down sides to the HF gun was it needed so much pressure to atomize properly. Caused for a lot of overspray.
