My fishing buddy has a boat just like mine, with a suped up mariner, were guessing over 200 easy,he has a high performance lower unit with a nosecone and lowwater pickups, right now he's running a 25 turbo and getting 5800rpms extreamly fast dont know for sure but around mid 70's mph.his hole shot sucks.but once on plane he's gone and the turbo is giving the boat unbelievble lift.he lowered the motor to see what that would do but had no effect at all.i think the boat is set up to run and that 5800 is a little low for a suped up mariner any more suggestions of what i can tell him,or should he go down in pitch?sorry for not having all the info.thanks.

Re: ??not enough info

A couple of things to ponder. Either he's not going as fast as he thinks or the tach is off. I'd almost suspect the tach since he changed the X dimension and the r's didn't.

If he has a 2:1 case his top speed, in theory, is about 70 at 0% slip. With a 1.86:1 he's around 75, in theory, with 0%.

However, if he's actually turning, say, 6200 with a 1.86 and 10% slip, he'd definately be into the 70's.

If he can't get the tach verified, drop the motor even more or raise it to the moon and see what effect it has on the rpm. Dont pay any attention to speed or anything else, just rpm. Or put a bigger or smaller prop on and see what happens with the tach. We could be looking at a tach that goes to 5800 and stops.

The rpms moved a little he said but not that much,he's going to try a different 3 blade a quicksilver today, but he's wanting to try a 25p in a 4 blade, the boat is really setup good sa far as i can tell except he's holeshot is terrible but once he falls over he's gone.

The quicksilver gave him a good holeshot but he blows out,ran 6200Rpms at 70mph,i told him to lower the motor a little to see if stops blowing out.

The quicksilver is'nt going to work,he lowered the motor 1/4 inch more and is still blowing out,i told him he needs a bigger diameter prop,he's got alot of power in that motor.

Re: ??not enough info

It will but you may have to fiddle with the thrust washer & spacer but no big deal. I have a 25 Turbo but if his boat is like yours we may be better off with the Lightning or TXP.
