I have a nice sized crack in my lower unit and yes of course I am leaking oil. Do not know how it got theree but I do know I can't seem to fill the crack. Would solder be able wo withstand the kind of torment that goes thru with a lower unit. The engine is an old 1969 McCullough Any suggestions?

Re: Not Good

NoFishJoe.... There is a epoxy material that I use from time to time called "Marine Tex". IOt comes in two colors, white and gray. Use the gray as I beleive that it is superior in strength. It will cure overnight and when it does, it can be drilled, tapped, filed, danded, etc, and it will be stronger that the material it is repairing. Give it a try.

The surfaces MUST be free of all oil contamminants. That means washing with acetone.
