What's with some people? Yesterday, my wife, son and I went for a little boat ride into one of the quiet sheltered bays here. We met up with the wife's brother and family. They were anchored and had some friends from out of town with them. The 'friends' had a 26' Fountain with an impressive 540" bowtie in it. He asked us if we'd like to go for a 'spin'. I told the fella I love the speed but don't care for the 'tricks' at all. I have another friend that has hurt people in his boat and don't want to be another boating statistic. He laughed and said he's a responsible boater and that would never happen... friend of the family right? We leave the cove and head out across the inlet. It's an impressive ride 10... 20... 30... 40... 50... 60... 70 mph! Five of us in the boat (just the adults, we left the kids with the smart people that didn't come for the ride) and flying along smoothly. Here's where it goes bad, the knob decides it's time to show off... he pulls hard to port... harder... harder... you guessed it, we spun out at 60 (ish). My sister-inlaw flies into side, my wife and I bang heads, the boat goes right around just about rolls (AND I MEAN JUST ABOUT!) My head was inches from the water... going backwards at speed. A bunch of water comes in and we're all soaked. The knob turns around and asks if we're ok... I said that he'd better take us back, before something bad happens to my knuckles and his face. We got back untied and left. I've seen this crap before, I don't think anyone else in the boat understands how lucky we were that the boat didn't roll. That was a close call for us... and the knob.
