Re: not peeing at idle

It should be peeing at idle, at least a sputter of water steadily expelling. Probably a bad impeller. It may have lost a vane or two. How old is your current water pump and impeller?

Re: not peeing at idle

I just fixed that problem on my Force 50. I had great flow when underway, but nothing at idle. I replaced my impeller and still no idle flow. Since I wasn't having any performance problems, I didn't mess with the carb needle valve. On the 50 hp. looking at the carb air inlet, on the left side you'll see a little arm that rests against a cam arm that is linked to your shift/throttle linkage. On this little arm is a roller with a bolt and nyloc nut. This bolt is an eccentric which when rotated makes the roller press more against the carb throttle arm. Loosen the nut just enough so that you can rotate the bolt so that it is pressing against the throttle cam a bit harder. If you loosen it too much, it won't keep its new position an will just rotate away from hard contact. It doesn't take but about a sixteenth of a turn to make the idle speed rise a good bit. Just keep moving the bolt/roller position until your idle speed is high enough to push water at idle.
Snug down the nut to hold the desired position and you should be good to go. This won't help much if your impeller is not good, so make sure that it is.

Hey Estaver...when the hell does your long winded comment have to do with a needed impeller change?
Texas, pull the lower and put a new impeller in. Get a manual, and when you post, how about a little more info..make, model, year, horsepower, you know, the little things?

Say, Robby.

Estaver's explanation is about how to raise the idle speed in expectation that it will cause tell tale flow to begin. He offers it from his own experience with a similar problem on the same model engine.

While we all appreciate any advice and help you can offer, we also appreciate courtesy and would like you to offer that as well.

While your replies are usually helpful, concise and businesslike, they sometimes seem impatient and rude, like the one above.

Texas Star is a new member. The new puppy likes the water at 7 weeks, so I see no problem ahead getting used to the boats!

Re: not peeing at idle

First off, I wanted to Hello to all.

I have a 1989 Force 125 no Model##... I bought this boat as a project for my son and I. The motor starts, and idles but no water flow. I shut the engine off after 15 seconds or so. This is my first boat, so I am not sure how long it takes to fill the water jacket. I have pulled the lower unit and replaced the water pump, with a complete rebuild kit. I flushed the engine with a garden hose, to see if any debris came out. Water runs through the engine and out pretty clean. I have tried using a flush kit and dipping the LU in a bushel basket, but the water is just above the intake slots....

Now for the real question, where in the heck is the thermostat??? The manual I have doesn't show one.

Any help or suggestions would be great.
