Heard this one at the pub the other day-
This guy was complaining about saturated foam, but did not have the time or patience to rip apart his boats floatation cells (this was a small little ski boat)

So what he did was drill holes in the aft lower corners of the cells, tilted the boat up for a day or three, got out about 10-15 gallons +- of water total from the two sides and installed garboard plugs in the holes.

This sounded like a quick fix to remove a % the excess water in the floatation area.

But you be the judge!

Well certainly not the best way...the foam I'm sure is still soaked but at least he got all the standing water out.

He took 100ish pounds off of the boat. Not the best way to do it, but hes a little farther from sinking than he was before. Sounds like a reasonable compromise between fixing it and just running it as far as it will go.

YUP, definetly different, I think the guy was going to hook up his shop vac to an adapter and see if he could get even more out.

YUP, definetly different, I think the guy was going to hook up his shop vac to an adapter and see if he could get even more out.

You cannot get all the H2O out of foam without replacement ..

I dont really know how much more or less damage it would be for " sucked out water logged " foam.

Leave it and drain it.. dunno.. I replace it..

Does not mean its not a short term fix..but its Not a long term solution ..

I think I have a solution for the Wet Foam!!!! Let me TALK about it for a while...Everyone thinks I'm such a BLOWHARD and BAG OF HOT WIND, I bet I could have that boat dried out in NO TIME!!!!

Exactly, but everyones in such a hurry to get on the lake that they will take the short cuts.

And you have a Great point here rbh..

Not to say that Every shortcut for Every circumstance is going to outcome in a negative way..

On your particular point of semi-dry foam Might ( and I have no conclusive evidence of this ) be conducive to Mold.

Yes getting Most of the water out of the foam will benefit the overall aspect of rot and weight .. or whatever.. I was thinking more in the line of Mold. Being so conducive to mold in the cabin and not being able to rid yourself of this very dangerous growth is kinda a backside of the Short Cut ..

I know what your saying and It makes good grounds for someone to quick fix things ( and Im not totally opposed to these types of things for most of our boats that come in this forum ).
