1987 mercury 80hp S/N: 0B301950. The motor went dead on me in the water so I went ahead and replaced the switch box with the extra one I got from replacing it last year and it didn’t solve the problem. So I did an ohm test on the stator and it realized it was bad so I replaced it with my old one and the motor has spark and runs now but it won’t rev up all the way. It idles fin but as you rev up it seems to get stuck at half throttle. Isn’t there a mechanism in the stator that is connected to the throttle linkage to command more spark at higher throttle settings? Seems like something like that would be worth investigating but not sure where to start.
