Not starting, am I missing something?

Well I went to start the big boat up tonight with the 350 GL Volvo. Not thinking I pumped the gas 3 or 4 times as it is a habit with my 3.0.

Try starting the thing and will not start up. First thing I think is I flooded it.

First made sure kill switch not engaged

I let it sit for a bit and then pull the plugs and turned it over to get any excess gasoline out and also check, cleaned and checked gap on plugs while out.

Try again and still will not start.

Even though I know cap and rotor is fine, I did put the new spare set on.

Still no go.

Check for spark at each plug wire. Yup got spark..

I then focused on the coil and it was a lot hotter than it should be. I then took a spare plug and did a quick test on the coil. Spark looked ok. Still worried, I then took it off and did a resistance test on it. I was concerned about the coil wire slot to pos resistance as it was 9000 OHM. Unless I am wrong, it is supposed to be between 10,000 and 11,000.

Going to try a new coil

I had it started last week after summerizing it and this is driving me nuts.

Am I missing something??

Was wondering if anyone has ever ruined a ignition module by leaving the key in the on position for a day?

I was reading online about how a coil can be damage under certain instances of leaving key in the on position.

Rushing to work last week I did leave the ignition on for a few days ago..

I doubt 3 to 4 pumps on the throttle would flood a cold engine, when you pulled the spark plugs, were they wet with gas? If not, flooding wasn't your problem. Possibly lack of fuel is. Might pull the flame arrestor off and operate the throttle and see if the accelerator pump is actually squirting gas.
Since you have spark at all plugs, squirt some gas into the carb and see if it will start or at least fire.

Thanks for the quick reply Don.

It ended up being the Coil. Just replaced it and fired right up..
