I have an evinrude sportwin 9 1/2hp model 9122r. <br />It has been sitting for 10 years. cleaned carb and put in new fuel. I ran for a while. After I took carb off I turned the rich lean knob and don't remember how much. now it just about starts but it won't continue to run. sometimes it spits back at me. Any suggestions. Thanks

Re: not starting

May be an ignition problem with your 1971 Evinrude. Being that it has sat so long, you definately need to clean your points. After you pull off the flywheel, you will most likely see that your coils are cracked severely.

Re: not starting

It seems to give good spark on both plugs. I had it running before I messed with the rich lean adjustment.

Re: not starting

Go back to forum and look at the thread near the top "it will not idle without choke". That ought to help you a great deal.
