Not sure if motor is adjusted properly on transom

When looking at this picture (moving about 28-30mph) it seems the spray from the side of the boat should be further back. Even when I?m in the boat alone and trimmed the spray is still coming out the side of the boat. Is there something I can do to get the boat up higher when on plane? Neighbor said the motor is not adjusted properly on transom. I wasn?t sure if I should lift the motor or lower it. Any help would be appreciated.

With the motor down look at the ant-cavitation plate. It should be even with the bottom of the boat or as close as possible.

+1 on the anti-vent plate height. In fact, it can even be as much as 1"-2" above the keel. You may have to get a jackplate of some sort to get the best height. Getting ideal performance also involves lots of trial and error with weight placement and configuration as well as trim and tilt. What type of motor are you running?

I have a Mercury 125 optimax. I brought the boat home today from storage to take a look at it. The motor is at its lowest position on the transom. I have to jack up the boat and trailer so i can tilt the motor all the way down to the transom. I will also try to get some pictures. Thanks

well for one thing, you are towing a skier!!!! i doubt you have the right prop set up for a skier....if you have the optimum prop from your boat -motor combo....and you are in the right rpm range and have adjusted your trim to acheive maximum performance...then that all goes out the window when you start pulling a skier...especially if you boat is barely powered.

there could be a few things going on...

first is the skier
second you boat could just be under powered
thridly you motor might be over propped( whats the speed and rpm you can achive while towing that skier?)
fourthly you might have a boat full of water soaked flotation foam, and are thus carrying about 200-400 more pounds thatn you thought
fifthly mayb boat hulls arent designed to get as far out of the water at speed as a bass boat does.

besides bass boats are usually over powered!!! they run 200 -350 hp motors on 18-22 foot boats with perfermonce hulls

and many run jack plates to reduce lower unit drag..

personally my best guess is its a combination of three or more things in your set up...

the skier
the HP you are running
and the trim you settling in at.
