Brand new battery. Old battery had enough power to work trim after I replaced trim motor. After installing a new battery, nothing works. Ignition key, trim, choke, gushes... nothing works. What am I missing?
Nope and to make sure I did a continuity test on wires. Everything is hooked up correctly. Cleaned off terminals to eliminate that problem. I’m not great on electrical but I get the general idea. Just need guidance on where to start.
Find the starter solenoid on the engine. trace one of the smaller red wires back from the solenoid to a short 20 ampere fuse (power/voltage to the "B" terminal of the ignition switch). You've no doubt blown it in the repair process.
If the fuse is okay, the neutral safety switch may be intermittent due to being slightly out of adjustment... jiggling the throttle handle usually cures that (temporarily).
The little 20amp fuse by the starter is fine. I’ll check for fuses under the console. Question is, what would keep the trim from working as well? Voltage on battery reads almost 13 and almost 7 when load test. Brand new battery. I have 12 volts at solenoid. I did change water pump. Now I have no power. I’ll also wiggle throttle position to see if that helps. Didn’t think that would mess with trim power tho.
Just using a snap on digital load tester. Don’t know how much load it puts on it. Got a new battery and same thing. I did hear a little sound when hit the trim buttons. Something else is up. It’s hooked up correctly. I’ve checked all grounds and connections. The only thing that has changed is I did the water pump. I’m lost.
If you have 12volts at the solenoid can you jump across it and start the engine or at least make it turn over with the key on? That will tell you if you have sufficient cranking amps
