Today neighbor came by, 6 houses up,on the corner of a somewhat busy country (turning into suburbs) road.outside Raleigh N.C.. his house was robbed today between 9am and 3pm.stolen, 3long guns, wifes jewlry,22" lcd monitor and a pickle jar full of coins 50/75 pounds among other things.neighbor went to everyones house on our dead end street to inform us and said another neighbor told him she had two men from a "Home Security"co. come by 2/3 days ago.she became suspicious about them and a third guy driving a van in her driveway.she got the tag# when they left. Tennesee plate, white van w some kinda logo on the side.Back up two hrs.I was at my parents house 8 miles away at 5pm.Two guys rang the doorbell and I saw them out the front door. one looked less than respectable and dad got to the door first.I was talking w mom and knew dad would handle this quickly in his "courtious" fashion.LOL.I thought about it later and called him to see what they were selling.he said they were "energy efficientcy remodeling contractors, windows, doors,Hvac, and they offered to TEST his AC and windows BLA BLA .I asked what they were driving and he said he did not see any truck/van.the two guys were of different races/ I imply nothing about this fact except that the two guys from the "home security co" were also!!I called the police and told them of my coincedences today. they said there are at least 4 suspects, ones a woman! and they have had incidents and reports locally for 2 weeks.Also,5 days ago and 9 days ago two different men claiming to be w ATT, both w badges,(one had a shirt w ATT on it), inquiered at our home about our current services, prices etc.Im pretty sure the first one was legit, but did not look too carefully at his ID picture badge on his belt, kinda obscured by his clipboard.second guy I stoped in the driveway and told him we'd just been visited.now I realize he,or both may have been a perp.By a few comments they made before they left.these people can rob you quickly.I think they break in when they find no one home for several houses or more.grab what they can and call the driver on a cell phone when ready to go.they are probably gone in a minute or less. They may use more than one vehicle to monitor surroundings for police/homeowners.Keep your guard up,and take nothing for granted when someone knocks on your door .Be safe and watch out. Im sure there are more of them and they move around to stay ahead of the law.Edited because of my poor sentence forming abilities and spelling and politicaly incorrect content.I never did well in english class, so I guess i should have my wife translate and post important info.for me.

They're all over, in this economy especially. They will try anything to get to your stuff. Best thing to do is keep everything locked, and don't let anyone in that you don't know or didn't invite, and don't give out any personal information.

i live in the country as well, we had a burglar going around. he came into our house. my g/f was in the shower and the dog met him as he opened the door. he decided to go somewhere else quickly. g/f said she's never heard my dog make that kind of sound before. she's (the dog) only a little boxer but she knows her job. most friendly dog in the world normally that day she earned her keep though.

If they get past the dog in the yard - the one in the house will finish it up. They enjoy a little exercise.

The yard dog killed a 30# possum on command in less than 10 seconds. He snapped it's neck in one bite and then carried the corpse around for ten minutes or so before giving it to me for disposal.

best sign i seen at a gun show was, the dog can make it to the fenceline in 2.8 seconds if you can't your life isn't worth it or something like that. I almost nailed her up on the porch.

I'm basically the watch dog in my neighborhood and if I see an idling vechicle or a stranger on a door step I approach and ask a question or two. If I do not like their atitude I ask them to leave if they do not I call my friends, the cops. Always program your local police into your cell phone.

The city that I live in if you soliciate you need to go to the police station and get a permit.

We had the same expierence with our Sheppard/Collie, was a very good judge of charactor that could be trusted. We know have a Rotty mix, most people don't bother to find out if he's friendly or not.

I won't do business with anyone cold calling me on the phone or at the door, I know if your a salesperson you don't want to hear that but the OP post is why. I was burned once at the door but a different scam.

Re: Notice to all.

Door to door solicitation is one of my pet peeves...I am sure there are some legitimate "salespeople" that do it, but there are just way too many con-artists, thieves, and other shady types that make my job hell.

I advise all victims to do the following if they see anyone soliciting door to door:
do not answer the door, call the police department, make a note of their description (clothing, vehicle, etc).

The city in which I live and work requires a business permit and a peddlers permit to solicit door to door (except non-profits). If a citizen calls us to report it, we dispatch an officer to make contact with the "salesperson(s)" and make sure they have the permits. 90% of the time they do not.

In my experience, door to door solicitation is an excellent and common way to cover more sinister acts...scope out the valuables, see who is home, etc.

If you city does not have a similar law, call your council members and urge them to pass one...it will reduce number of daytime residential burglaries.

door to door meat??

door to door meat??

I really dislike anyone who knocks on my door trying to sell or convert me. Caught a guy half way up the driveway and he was selling meat out of a pickup truck?? I asked him to please turn around and leave?.his response was ?fine, my daughter will just go without shoes then?. Had no affect on me, other than he must have been turned away many times before to be that quick with a reply.
I also get the Jehovah?s at least 6 times a year. And while they are nice well dressed people, I really have no use for these people and have no problem letting them know they are trespassing and to never come back.
Just think it?s election time and these folks are starting to show up like jet skiis behind a big boat. They are rather EZ because if they are an incumbent, I have no use for them either.

My doberman would help thieves carry things out if she could...not much of a watch dog once you are actually in the yard.
