Re: Now that I have a boat everyone wants to be my friend.
I love driving my boats and I also love it when someone else drives and I get to ride and relax. But then again my friends and family are all boaters so it's not an issue.
i have a friend who used to have a 42' trawler design and now has a 46' sailboat. When he and his wife take several couples for a cruise, he often turns the helm over to me (once we are underway) so he can relax. I love it even though sometimes I'm a little stuck and sometimes above my experience level--but I have learned and am learning--like don't mash a button while asking what it does, ask before mashing.
I understand not letting inexperienced or irresponsible friends drive, but every member of the family needs to know how to run it. Not just for emergencies; it's what you have a boat for. Tolerate mistakes. If we didn't live that way around here, all my friends and family wouldn't be boaters, like I said above!
