I am really dumbfounded right now ? Maybe someone can help. I got a good compression yamaha motor. Before taking it out I change water pump, gear oil and fired it up on the hose. it was rough, it spit and sputtered for a few seconds then cough and died. So I got the carbs cleaned. I ran it last weekend and it seemed to run fine. But it still spit once a while and cough and die at low idle. So I decided to decarb the motor Last week. I didn't replace the plugs. I took it to the river and ran it, it ran fine. It also died at low rpm a few time. I assume it is the spark plugs. So I left it alone because the work week began. Friday I took out my gas sender and then put a rag over the hole and went to test the sender and gauge. Found out it was the wire going from sender to gauge. Things popped up and I forgot to put the sender back in. It rained over the weekend but I had the deck covered. Then Sunday I noted that the rag over the hole was wet. So I put in the sender. And I put in a new water separtor. I just got around to putting in new plugs today. I took her to the river awhile ago. Couldn't even get her started. As soon as I start her. She would spit, sputter, then pop and die. 30 mins. no luck.
Did another compression check now. Its all 115-120. On the water hose, she is rougher now then it was before I had the carbs redone. Its hard to start now. I also bought a fresh 6 gallon test tank and tried it when I was on the river and when I was on the hose. No luck. I pulled the cowler off and saw that the filter on the motor was half full of water. This is the clear one with the spring in it. I took it out and empty the water. Where did the water come from. Then it hit me. The sender hole.

The carbs had a bolt that I took out to drain the bowls. I did all of them except the lower left one. This is if you are looking at it from the front to the transom. There are six. Couldn't get it off. I re prime the motor and she still acted the same. Do you guys think the carbs need to be cleaned again cause of the water that may have gone into it? But I didn't run it. I couldn't even get it off the trailer in Revs. had to just pull it.

any help would be appreciated. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel. What am I doing wrong.
