Took my boat out this past weekend and the thing just ran like crap. Last time it was out, had no problem what-so-ever. First i couldn't get the thing to start, it's a 350mag EFI, so just turn the key and go, at least that's the way it has been. So first i notice the starter sounds funny, just a click, thought it was bad battery, purchased new battery, nope, still does it. After several clicks playing with it got it to turn over. Ok, turned over but won't start, starter has weird noises, i'm guessing a bearing noise. First issue, rebuild starter? Finaly took the throttle and gave it some gas while fireing up, started, wouldn't idle. Tried again, left throttle up, bout 1000 rpm, warmed up, and idled, rough, but running. Went to take off, and get up on plane, nope, won't do it. Now what. Dealer had it for other issue, so i don
't know what they did. Telling me i could need a new computer. Great. Could it just be a injector? Crossed plug wires?

Unfortunatley, the answers you're gonna get are guesses, and bad one at that. Need to know if its fuel or ignition related. Only you can figure that out maybe with some help. EFI has a computer. They don't get fixed over the internet. Its a 2010 I'm guessing? Warrantee?

Isn't this the craft that you had a new long block installed in and have had every problem possible since?

Yes this is the same craft, it get's better after the new long block was put in. Used it for a matter of 4 hours to start breaking it in, found out previous owner had it over proped with a 22, because with the new motor couldn't get it out of the water, so put 17 pitch prop on, used it weekend before 4 of July weekend, before putting it on the water checked fluids, no power steering fluid, topped it off, went boating for 10 min, came out of the water great with new prop, checked power steering fluid, gone. Called dealer, droped it off. They had it up until 2 weeks ago, had to replace power steering actuator, they crossthreaded the fitting. Went to use it this past weekend, no trim power, they forgot to connect it back up, couldn't get it started, finaly got it started wouldn't plane out, no power. Hoping they didn't connect something else, not computer, or something else major. So far dumped 5700 bucks into it and 4 hours and 10 minutes of use. Oh ya and purchase price.

Ya, i kinda figured that much, just thought i would throw it out there see if some one had the same symptoms, running great one minute, crap the next time. The boat is a 2000, with a new long block put in this spring, so the warrantee will only cover mechanical parts in the block. My concern is the motor has been in and out twice now, first to replace the cracked block, next to replace the power steering actuator (piston arm) i guess they couldn't remove it without taking the motor out again. That was on there dime. Part alone was 400 bucks, time and labor i'm guessing 3-4 hours, maybe more.

Re: Now what

ok, just got word today. the dealer took it out for a run, and it performed yet differently than it performed for me. Mechanic said he could get the boat on plane, then after a few seconds of driving it, bogged down, and went to idle position. After testing was told it was the pressure regulator. It's at 20 psi, and supposed to be almost double that. Anyway, told me they could order the part, 200 bucks and then labor bringing it to over 800. Said its under the motor, and have to lift the block (yet again) to fix this. He proceded to tell me that in his years in business they have never replaced one before. When do i stop sticking money into this damn thing.
