Have a 74' 150HP Mercury inline 6 w/ three carbs outboard I have been working on to sale. I have replaced impeller, rebuild carbs, replaced fuel lines, changed spark plugs and have a compression of 125+/- and has ran quit well until couple days ago when mix fresh gas/oil (1 pint to 6 gallon) I mix 2 gallon gas to about 6 oz and added less than teaspon Murphy's oil (grandfather used this for years with no problems).

Since mixed fuel you can crank, spray starting fluid, choke and does not turn over in start postion until key turns to run/on. At that time wont go for more than couple seconds. Removed the plugs and have what appears to be water droplets and milky residue. Compression still read same. Any ideas other than trying new fuel? thanks

Are you saying it won't turn over with the key in the start position but it will in the run position?

Sounds like you may have a bad switch. If the motor is not turning over you can forget about any fuel problems for now. You have an electrical problem.

Correct, it will not turn over with the key in the start posistion. But when you go to turn off the key from starting position it does a quick fire (probably from starting fluid) when the key goes to "on" postion. It does not run or turn over.

What part do you mean for "bad switch" and any ideas for the electrical problem.

There seems to be a misunderstanding between us. With key turned to start position does the motor or starter move at all?

When you go to run position from start position you say you had a quick fire from starting fluid, did the motor or starter move when you went to the run position?
