So i just did a carb rebuild and also replaced the water pump. i took it out today and she fired right up ran great. rode out about 5 min to a sand bar. waited about an hour. started the engine back up, for some reason the motor did not want to go into reverse. so we rode around for about 10 mins and then it just slowed down and then shut off. I could not get it to start again. I'm thinking fuel problem. the engine has a yamaha fuel pump installed by PO. I took it apart and it looked good. i dont know what else to do any ideas would be great.

Remove air silencer cover if having one or remove complete air silencer, squirt some gas on carb and try, if engine starts well and dies thereafter, gas related issues from tank to carb...check.

"I could not get it to start again."
Did the starter crank? Did it fire at all?
Since you were having "for some reason the motor did not want to go into reverse." problems, maybe the neutral safety system has a problem.

Re: NS40C Died on the water and would not start again.

Ok so i went outside and tried to just crank the engine, did not do any thing special, and it fired up. The problem i had on the water was the engine died after a few mins. I was at full throttle crusing along the water. it sputtered a second and then slowly shut off. I tryed to start it up agian, abd it was spining over fine, but would not fire. after i left the message yesterday i walked outside and just tried to crank it, and it cranked after about a 45 seconds of turning over. the other problem i had was the reverse, but i belive it was because i was trying to get into gear before it went dead. It seemed like it did not want to idel very well. I had to let it set there for a few mins with the trottle partly open before i could put in to gear.

If engine is cranking ok starting and dying at wot, check tank & engine gas filters for clogging issues, if ok, try a new gas hose, does miracles sometimes. if you are using ethanol mixed gasolines for some time, check all plastic, rubber parts as they lasts much less than when using standard gasolines.
