I installed the outdrive on the boat. Shifts fine forward and reverse.

I no longer have a nuetral detent ( safety to keep inadvertant gear engage )

It was fine before I I took off the sterndrive, does anyone know what I did wrong or the correct way to fix this ?

Thanks

Re: Nuetral detent

congrats metro...

I don't know about your specific boat but I have an old Sea Ray and the neutral safety switch is part of the remote throttle. I had to take mine apart because the handle was slipping.

The steps below are what I had to do to remove mine. If you look at the bottom of the forward/reverse lever there should be a notch that will allow you to get an allen wrench into the handle. Using a flashlight rotate the handle until you line the notch up with the allen screw and remove the screw completely. Once the screw is removed the handle will slip off. Then a few screws will allow you to remove the complete remote shift from the side of the boat. Once removed you can take the remote shift apart to replace/repair the neutral safety switch.

Maybe someone that knows more about OMC will chime in here.
