Hello
I just came back from vacation (Long Island Sound )and my boat behaved nicely In salt water for 5 days (1988 3.0 liter Mercruiser/Alpha One).

I was very surprised to see that a lot of the boats at the marina and out on the water were Outboards with Yamaha motors ?

75% of my boating is done in salt water 25% at the lake.

I have been playing with the idea of buying something bigger then my 19’ Searay.

Should my next boat be an Outboard?

Thanks for your opinion

My favorite reason of all:

With an outboard, everybody can see how big yours is!

Depends on the size and type of boat.

OB for me; corrosion resistance, ease of maintenance, lighter, more stern space, comparable fuel economy with today's engines, can see the position of engine when loading on trailer or docking.

One other advantage with an outboard. If you love the boat and hate the motor, you can sell the motor and buy what you want. If you love the motor and hate the boat, you can sell the boat and install the motor on a different boat. Not very practical to do that with an I/O.

just returned from the FL Keys, i prefer outboard, and in the salt water of the Keys, you see far more outboards, and inboards, than i/o. neighbors across the street had a 28' Mako w/ 2 250 mercs. even the charter dive boats are outboards.

I know my next boat will be an outboard. Much better as far as winterizing and service..
