Without Googling?!?! I might get some detail wrong... My gimpy single-cell memory unit recalls something like:<br /><br />Ok is a play on a phrase that was popular during the Victorian era, “all’s correct”, meaning everything is fine. It was popular during that era to use acronyms, and to fiddle with the letters of an acronym, but not fiddle too much. Ok is the result of fiddling with the letters “AC” to come up with an acronym for “all’s correct”.<br /><br />Fwiw, Ok is also the only word that has usage and the same meaning in every language.

I remember talking about this at a party!<br /><br />Clocks used to have to be calibarated in order to be accurate, the best place to get this done in the UK was at the Observitory in Kew, London.<br /><br />The stamp OK (observitory Kew) was put on each clock after calibaration. Because Kew had a reputation for quality work the phrase OK became adopted as a way of saying something was good.
