Looks like somthing to control good people too

Nah, they just park them in front of crack houses. If enough people call and the police observe sketchy activity, they park it out front for about 3 days. It been proven to end the activity. Sure it just moves somewhere else, but the trucks cost the city $10 to buy. The refurbs are paid with seized drug money, so it's not an expensive program to run.

They had a naming contest for them too. They are now known as "Starsky and Hutch"!

Around here they would probably scrap it, it's what they do with the armored security trucks.
..

The city of Canton, IL got one and made it their "SWAT" vehicle. So here in the US, they can be used by police departments. But most do get the doors taken off, the glass removed, and then crushed and scrapped, yes.

I had the opportunity to work on these LAV's (light armoured vehicles) a couple years ago. Really cool experience.

We were subcontracted to put in the electronics, lighting and communications systems and modify the suspensions systems among other tasks. Once serious looking "truck" and combat ready. Fully armoured, 2" bullet proof glass with gun ports in all windows, roof turret, run flat tires ($5K each) etc. These guys take there job seriously.
