Re: O-ring woes!

Thanx guys, I'm going to use a suitably sized length of piano wire for the "punch", and probably a block of hardwood for the "anvil" part.
I have a small hydraulic press that I'll use, better than a vice.
And thanx Ian, it'll be great if you can get these rings for me, will they be exactly the same size or close enough?

Re: O-ring woes!

I got my connector apart OK, I was surprised at how easy it was, I really expected to need more pressure to get the brass bushings out.
For anyone else who wants to try this, I used a chunk of 3/4" (19mm) thick hardwood for the anvil part, with a 5/8" (16mm) hole bored in it. To press the bushings out I used a 2 1/4" (57mm) length of 3/32" (2.4mm) diameter piano wire.
As many people have said this is MUCH easier than trying to winkle the old rings out with a bit of wire, and insertion of the new ones will be simple. There were also several small crumbs of rubber floating around inside, you'd probably never get those out without disassembly.

That's great Ian, you can send them to me at work...

Graham Knight
Studio 7
Shepperton Film Studios
Studios Road
Shepperton TW17 0QD

If I have to buy spares here I have two main sources, the marina at the end of my road is an OMC dealer, if I'm in a hurry and he has it in stock I'll use him, but he's not cheap! If I'm in less of a hurry I sometimes use Keypart in Watford, cheaper but takes longer.
But mostly I buy direct from the US when possible, usually much cheaper but sometimes a lot longer wait, depends how desperate I am!
Do let me know if I can do anything in return for the O-rings, my speciality is making repro parts, especially plastic and rubber stuff (although O-rings are difficult!).
