I just removed the rotting, existing OB mounting pad from the transom of my little 14' Sea Nymph. Are there any rules of thumb for dimensions on these things? Material?

The existing one was made up of four pieces. A large tapered piece of plywood, narrower towards and pointing to the bottom, that was on the outside. A smaller horizontal piece stacked on the bigger one and one that is similar sized to the small one on the inside. Additionally, there is an aluminum plate on top of the inboard piece of plywood, maybe 1/16 inch thick. All of this sandwiched around the Aluminium transom and through bolted. Should I simply duplicate?

Re: OB mounting pad

sound like a plan. see no problems. the main thing the pad does is distribute the weight & thrust of the engine over a larger surface

Yup. Thanks. All makes sense, just wanted to confirm that there wasn't some new conventional wisdom. With this search function the way it is, forget it . . .
