Hi,

I want to test my OB 87 Force125, I have the water ears or whatever they are called but can I bucket test the engine using a large container and fill it up to the top of the lower half of the motor? I know I cant get the RPM's up because the water will be gone on the first ramp up of power, I do not want to damage the impeller or lower half but this would be easier than heading to the lake right now.

You can only run it at idle in a plastic container as the prop will throw water out as it is spinning. To test it properly, take it to t he lake and tie it to the dock. You won't get full rpm this way but you will get enough to let you know if you engine is running good or not.

Thank You John.

I will test it with a tub to get it going and then I will take it to the lake once I get it running to gt the RPM's up a little bit before everyone starts launching.

When you check and adjust your idle, you want 700-750 rpm in gear. Doing this while tied to the dock gets you better results than trying to do it in the driveway.
