Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

I have discovered that a lot of people own expensinve inboard ski boats but don't necessarily use them for their intended purpose.

Long term financing has put many a toy in the fragile, tenuous grasp of many people who cannot use them to their full potential.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

I just think we all need to just get along.. Fishermen hate this, wake boarders hate that. We are all just out having a good time. What ever you are in I would suspect that our parents would have something negative about what we have. Well you can see what kind of boat I have. There are lots that don't like it also. Before I had this one I had a jet ski and a pontoon. I would drive around the lake on the pontoon and most of the fishermen on the banks would smile and wave. I would go around the lake at the same speed and distance from the shore on my jet ski and most of the fishermen would wave, but with just one finger.. I am the same person on the pontoon as I am on the jet ski as on my current boat. I follow the rules of the road and try to respect the other boaters. I don't get upset with the fishermen that need to sit and fish in the place I would like to ski. So Just because I don't like to fish anymore doesn't give someone else the right to give me a hard time just because I don't do the same thing or have the same boat they do. Lets just everyone understand we all have different ideas of what fun is. Lets all be good people and try to get along. God Bless America!!!

Everyone look at sickwilly's avatar! In it he's blowing by someone within inches!! He's the one we all hate! Attack! ;)

Personally, I hate the ones with working boats that are having fun on the lake rather than rebuilding it from nothing in their garage. Evil people!

YEA I HATE THE GUYS WHO AREN'T IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE WITH VICE GRIPS AND DUCT TAPE (caps lock whoops) trying to get the boat started while being bitc*ed at by everyone else in the boat the most...those guys suck

It's not the wake boarders, it's the people who pull tuberes. Wake boarders go in A staight line, but the tuberes ZIG ZAG ALL OVER THE LAKE.

I've been an avid wakeboarder for over 10 yrs.
Idiots come in all shapes and sizes (and types of water craft).
We tube quite a bit, and get on a jet ski (lake roach) once in a while.

We don't have an X-star, or a 22v or a Wakesetter, but we have a tower, and tower speakers and board racks -- we at least look the part. (and we've been stopped more than once for congrats on our riding ;)
We do like our music once in a while, but I figure if you can't stand a little rock or classic rock from a distance at the lake on the weekend you might have found the wrong hobby.
We try to give the right of way when it's ours to give, and leave the fishermen (fisherfolk?) plenty of room.

Tubers -- they're tubers, they need some space. It DOES tick me off when they're ripping up the one corner of the lake that's out of the wind when the skiers and boarders are desperately seeking smooth water. You're TRYING to make waves -- go out where they're already abundant and leave the flat water to the ones that have something to gain from being there.

The lake roaches -- I've made mistakes too -- you get messing around and lose track of your location, but I get it corrected ASAP. I will occasionally tag along behind a big wake boat for a few jumps, but never if they're towing.
I do believe this crowd has the least "boating" experience in general, and they are the ones I keep the closest eye on. MOST, however, I find to be about as courteous as anyone else.

At the end of the day...the golden rule applies to just about everything.

Just about anyone can legally drive a propelled flotation device. Common sense, aptitude, courtesy, (and in some cases sobriety) is not a required factor, whether it be a jet ski, pontoon, ski boat, canoe, or fishing boat.

Cant fix stupid. Just have to be on the look out for it.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

I have often wondered these things too.

We launch on Lake Washington. Its a 20 mile long lake and averages 1/4 to probably 1 mile across in areas.

The Jetskis all ten to congregate right off the boat launch at Sand Point for some reason. I hardly ever see them anywhere else. Juanita bay sometimes.

The Wakeboarders all tend to end up in Juanita Bay. Now its a really big lake, and my travels up and down it, skiing and tubing etc, you see a few boarders. But go to Juanita Bay and there can be 30 or so Wakeboard boats there, just partying.

I never see any of these guys boarding, they all just sit there listening to tunes and drinking beer. Makes me think that they are on daddys boat and dont have enough money to fill the fuel tank up at the end of the day, so just sit and party.

This probably happens everywhere - happens where I boat as well. In my case I think its mainly because the rental place is nearby, and most people that rent the Seadoos don't want to stray too far, especially if they are unfamiliar.

They should put out bouys or something....

True in some places, but Lake Washingtons shorline is mostly private, with only a few public parks on it, and a few commercial places, Kenmore Air on the north end, Boeing on the south end, and only 4 boat launches on it.

No rental areas that i know of anywhere close, i have lived here 43 yrs. So trailering to the lake is the only option unless you live on it.

Its a mystery.

If they're within range of 9 shot out of a 410 tc pistol, then they're fair game... otherwise if they're irritating me I need to head downriver to more open water - thank goodness I live where there's enough water that I can always find an empty stretch... (as in empty enoug that there aren't boats within a mile or so...). Speaking of which... isolated thunderstorms today... think it's time to head for water. have fun

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

Wait....Wait! Ya'll are leaveing out the worst group of them all! My biggest probelms occur on the boat launch. We have those that snake their way in. :eek:There are those that cannot back a trailer.
:mad:There are those that cannot get the boat on the trailer without 5 attempts. There are those that want to remove every thing from the boat while its still on the lauch.
:mad:There are those that take up two launch lanes
:mad:There are those that try to do it all, they back the trailer in, jump in the boat launch it, park the boat at the dock 100 Yd away (while the truck is still on the boat launch) and then go and move their truck. Takes about 20min to complete.
:mad:Then like someone else said there are those that hang around the boat lauch with their jet ski's creating wake so those that people who normally have no problems getting trailered are bounced all over the place

Where I launch, it's very busy all the time and if idiots like above are around, it can take me overn a hour just to launch.

I'd take the frat-boy wakeboarders over the family with the little kid in the tube going 15 miles per hour all over the lake anyday. And yeah, those flying tubes are pretty much the worst invention ever.

I hate those boaters that sit around complaining on web sites instead of just relaxing and having fun! LOL

and the problem with that is what again? sounds like a good afternoon to me! Its kind of like fishing, only you don't have to waste money on a rod, tackle, and bait. (and its actually ENJOYABLE!)

I didnt say there was anything wrong with it, i though it was just funny, on any given Sat or Sun, if you go into Juanita Bay, there are 20-30 Board boats there, with 5 or 6 wake boards on them, but i never see any of them, at least on the north end of the lake ever wakeboarding, and i go out pretty much every weekend and pick up a friend up there in Juanita bay to go boarding and skiing

I'm the original poster and that's the type of response that frustrates me. I'm out on the river with my family including a five year old boy and I need to watch out for knuckleheads that have had too much to drink. Last year a plastered wakeboard boat launched over the stern of a cabin cruiser as the old man was anchored out of the channel tending to his dingy. He was killed and the drunken pilot is now behind bars. I've got no problem at all with all types of river users, but please, everyone, keep the beer at home.

I dont condone drinking and boating/driving either, but i dont like preaching either so i didnt say anything.

I had a drunk Jetskier sink my 20' Bayliner a few yrs ago.

We were sitting, not moving, engine off, having lunch on the boat, a jetski cruises by us, close, then his buddy, chasing him, hits us, probably 30 mph, he clears the boat plus 7 feet or so, his ski broke the right rear of my transom off, great, i went down with my ship.

His father bought me a new boat.
