...apologies for preaching! Chalk it up to 102 forecast today and no opportunity to put the boat in the water...

Thanks, it was pretty suprising. THUD, crash, what the heck flew over the boat, splash, oh !@# we are sinking!

It was a cuddy so it bobbed along bow up. Jet skier says "i didnt see you" umm yeah.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

My biggest concern is some idiot in / on anything not paying attention when zipping by my boat.

We try to head out as far as we can from the ramp, and get off to one side so we can all get out and swim. We have had all kinds of people get way to close everything from a jet ski, to wake boat. Only thing we haven?t had problems with are the fishing boats because where out in the middle of the day when fish aren?t biting.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

My biggest aggrivation with boating are jet skis, bass boats are pretty binconsiderate folks too (in general). By far the worst for me is the "lower social class" people, to put it nicely, that hang around the public launches oggling anyone who pulls up, getting in the way on teh docks, throwing fishing lines all over behind your boat when you're launching, etc. Launching/recovering into an unprotected river with a strong tide is enough to deal with without those inconsiderate clowns getting in the way. I mean honestly, is it that hard to pull in your lines, step out of the way, or fish off teh other side of teh dock for 5-10 minutes while I get my truck backed in and boat on the trailer?

really....."lower social class"....I know you probably didn't mean it that way, it's just you feel you're better than them;). Aggravation simply derives from stupidity and you can't fix stupid.....irregardless of their "social status" or their aquatic transportation. If fact, the most obnoxious people I experience are the ones with the most expensive toys...you've seen them.....they show up with their new Chevy/Ford 4x4 and new Mastercraft wakeboat...of course matching paints and graphics...they make a spectacular event launching their boat. The cruise the no wake zone forever and anchor in the middle of a glassy cove. It's all part of their show. The only pay off is their ladies are wearing bikinis and pretty hot:D!

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

So, I live on this pretty narrow river and on Sundays it's just like a two lane road. I'm wakeboarding (which I'm new at it) and I'm just outside the wake and kinda shakey because of all the traffic on the river. All of a sudden this guy in a baja is like five feet away from me passing us and trying to give me a high five. I lost it immediately and wiped out. My friends in the boat were screaming at him. If I would have fell just a minute before he definately would have hit me. I was stunned that there are people that have no regard for safety like that. It is a fun past time and I love boating. These people make think twice about bringing kids on the boat with me. Just thought I would share. Please don't ride up behind someone so close that you have no distance to react if they fall.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

We do like our music once in a while, but I figure if you can't stand a little rock or classic rock from a distance at the lake on the weekend you might have found the wrong hobby.

At the end of the day...the golden rule applies to just about everything.

Excellent post with the exception of the statement re: music. You seem to preach tolerance but if I don't like your music, I may have the wrong hobby!?!?!? Not trying to be mean spirited, it's just that this one line seems to go against the rest of your post.

And since when was boating a hobby, for me, it's kind of an obsession although some may call it a sickness.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

As a fisherman, I love lake with long fingers and "no wake" buoys. Its fishing at its best.

As a tuber, I like lakes that are fat and without skiers and wake boarders.

As a skier, I like a lake with no wind and lost of wakes.

Jet skier and wake boarder like the same as skiers, but wind isn't a factor.

Barefooters hate everyone but barefooters.

We will never get along, because our needs our different. Let's face it, if you were given a chance to have a lake to yourself and a couple of buddies, wouldn't take it. Do you think if you were a fisherman you would take a buddy that is a wake boarder? Hell no.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

I went out yesterday at 8:00 AM. YES that was 8 in the morning!!!
It was the best, only one boat on the water and he was fishing. Even though he was in my normal wakeboarding cove I did not bother him.
The water was GLASS.. It was so smooth you could walk on it.
Not an idiot in sight, well except the one I kep seeing when looking in the rear view mirror!!!!:)

The people I don't care for are the inboard boaters. Talk about your grey pupon nose in the air crowd. They see you have a inboard/outboard style boat and they won't even talk to you. And like others have said they don't even use them. Wow look at me I have a $50,000 plus boat I am so much better than you.

I'm the original poster and that's the type of response that frustrates me. I'm out on the river with my family including a five year old boy and I need to watch out for knuckleheads that have had too much to drink. Last year a plastered wakeboard boat launched over the stern of a cabin cruiser as the old man was anchored out of the channel tending to his dingy. He was killed and the drunken pilot is now behind bars. I've got no problem at all with all types of river users, but please, everyone, keep the beer at home.

Sounds like the tragic accident that happened on the Columbia River. Sad that some people feel the need to get plastered as soon as they step on their boat.
Stupid people come in all shapes and colors, and are in everything on the water. You have to watch out for the other guy more than ever these days.

Re: The worst group of them all?!?!

Wait....Wait! Ya'll are leaveing out the worst group of them all! My biggest probelms occur on the boat launch. We have those that snake their way in. :eek:There are those that cannot back a trailer.
:mad:There are those that cannot get the boat on the trailer without 5 attempts.

Dude... (struggles to regain composure)

Why are you ripping on people who might not do this as well as you (think you) do, but are busting their humps to get better? Why don't you help us instead of treating us like untouchables?

I'll bet it took awhile for you to perfect launch and recovery techniques.
Think about it.

Agreed.

I'm new to boating, Just got a bass boat myself, and have always been curtious to everyone. Try to wave at everyone and so far most have waved back etc.

If I can't get my boat on the trailer I pull the truck, out and let the other guys go ahead, and pull there boats out. Turns out by doing so 2 Jet skiers even helped me, and a friend locate, and get my boat back on the trailer bed. After they got there ski's loaded. Took them probably 20 backup up attempts, as well.. But some docks are narrow as ..... Can't blame'em the pro's still have problems on some ramps.:D

Everyone has to learn to somehow. Only way to is to keep trying as I'm sure everyone had these problems when they first started boating as well..

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

One day, I'm going to own my my own lake.....what gets me all worked up is:

1. when wakeboarders, skiiers, don't hug the shoreline. If they did, the wake would dissipate before it gets to the other side. That's why I go out early an do my thing.

2. if the ramp is busy, and I'm trying to get the flat water before the wind comes up, know how to backup a trailer, or go to the shopping mall parking lot and practice first.

3. if I have a skier or wakeboarder in the water, don't pass near me.

4. are you kidding me, how can you buy a boat without taking a safety course?

5. boaters who use scuba diving buoys as an obstacle course????

other than that, when the service shops try to BS me and do a s@#$ty job.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

As a member of the twenty somethings on wake boats we are notoriously the worst on the lake..

I've grown up on boats my whole life, dad would still whoop my *** if he saw me acting like a retard like some of these guys.
