Odd find in my old boat... Any ideas?

I have an old 72 kajun. Can't find any info about it. Here's what I found.

Under the splashwell in what I thought was my bilge are two Brass and rubber plugs on either side of a recessed area where my bilge pump is.

Most boats that I've seen have a drain bolt in the transom for the bilge and another rubber plug for the rest

Sorry fir the long post but what are these two plugs? I tried to remove one but it won't budge.

I assume these go through the transom? They are there so you can drain the boat while running. Had them in my old 16' Starcrafts instead of the screw-in garboard plug.
Not sure why there are two.

They aren't on the transom. Just fwd of the transom is a recess for my bilge pump, they are on either side of the recess facing inboard.

I'd bet the plugs were added by a PO. My old Glastron had 2 holes opposite on the forward side of the bilge well that were obviously for draining the hull. Not real effective as they sat 1/2" above the bottom. I always tilted the bow up as high as I could get it and had some fuel line duct taped to the shop vac to vacuum out any water in the hull. Not sure it's a good idea to have them plugged because if water is under the deck it has no way to get out.

I also have 2 holes on fwd side of my skiff type boat, the water always gets in there, I thought of draining as dry as possible and plugging these with a rubber stopper...the down side is I can't tell how much water is actually in the boat as it runs up under the deck ???

haven't tried the hose on the shop vac trick, thought of blowing air in there to help circulate and dry under the deck ??

I can prop the boat up really high and it trickles out for days

I ended up dremeling the holes out even with the hull and I just prop the bow up when I get home. Even with the shop vac there was always probably a few gallons left in the stearn. Once I dremeled out the holes everything was drained to the plug hole.

Unless you have a water tight deck water will get under it.

Do you have a reason to remove them? If they don't leak, I'd leave well enough alone. No fuss no muss?

so its basically NEVER dry under there, and not much air circulates so I guess there would almost be nothing wrong with plugging them :D

That's the problem. The boat sat since january. I don't know if it's dry under there.
