I got the Seloc manual from Amazon for my 97 115 Evinrude oceanpro twins. What are peoples thoughts on what the OEM manual covers compared to the Seloc manual. So far so good; but I want to know what I'm missing

Re: OEM manual or Seloc aftermarket

It depends on whether you want to understand your outboards' mechanical principles and do medium-level repairs & maintenance (Seloc) or you want to tear into your outboards' inner workings (OMC original is way best). I like Seloc's a lot; the trick is to read the thing cover-to-cover like a good book. If you use it strictly as a reference manual it gets confusing because it covers so many different models in one book. Once you've read it through you become familiar with the contents, it makes more sense, and you learn a lot. Use a highlighter marker as you read it to mark areas pertinent to you model outboard. I have the OMC manuals for my outboards too and they're what I use in the shop while I'm working. But I read what Seloc has to say before I tear into something to pick up tips and get the big picture.

I bought a Seloc manual and I wish I'd just bought the OMC manual instead. The seloc is OK, buy like the previous poster mentioned, it covers too wide of a range of engines and can be a little confusing trying to find your way around.

OEM covers everything pertaining to the specific model and is not generic.

I have both and when I need to do "something" the OEM is the one I grab.

OMC manual is so easy to read with good photo's. The only way to go in my oppion.

my perspective, itstippy got it just right...the OEM manual is detailed & specific, but written for a wrench; Seloc is too general in places, but written for a do-it-yourselfer. Even describes some workarounds to avoid buying special tools.

I have both the Seloc and Clymer manuals for my outboard, and I find the Clymer manual is better organized and more specific than the Seloc. Thats just my opinion, but I usually check both manuals and then proceed from there. If the manual isn't specific enough just post your question and some one will give you the answer.
