Re: OEM or Replacement Parts!! PLEASE HELP

Alright, I appreciate the quick response from everyone.

However, I've done a search on side mount throttle controls and found the one for Teleflex marine but it doesnt look like the one I have which has an all in one feature STARTING FROM THE TOP--->DOWN ...(trim up-dwn,trailer button and throttle button)..

I am having the folowing troubles with the controller: front face plate has (2) screws which holds it on and even with using washers to fill the diffrence it still wont lay flat or sit properly; therefore, water can get into the wiring. In addition, the control itself is pretty sloppy meaning sometimes it wont go into neutral or jumps going in or out of gear, thus causing a harder start then I would like.

I appreicate the link and will look into controller as there are not many out there to choose from...I was hoping for a all around replacement website so I could get all the parts necessary to bring her back to up to par...

Yea.. those controls are known for getting sloppy, and the neutral button is terribly on those..

I'm sure it's a Quicksilver control after looking at the Teleflex again,

btw, the Trailer Button doesn't do anything different the TRIM UP does, except that the TRIM button goes through the trim limit circuit, which can be routed to a button on the dash if you wanted to .

How about this !!! ??

Heres a newer version i think

Comes with 4ft trim and trailer switch harness

Re: OEM or Replacement Parts!! PLEASE HELP

:D Thanks for proper name and diagrams' (stonyloam). Now I can figure out what I can replace or if it would be better to just replace the whole unit. I see they stopped making the faceplate for them so I may just replace it with the one (Kainon) posted..

Thanks again everyone and if you guys would have any more info on 1989 cobalt (parts) please feel free to contact me...

Re: OEM or Replacement Parts!! PLEASE HELP

f-fighter47 - Welcome! Always nice to meet another local Cobalt owner. I'm on my second. They are great boats, but Cobalt does not mass produce like a lot of the other guys (SeaRay, Bayliner, etc). If I remember right, they only build about 1400 boats a year. Because of that, good luck trying to find an oem replacement part for an older boat. That being said, because they only build a "few" boats a year, most of the major stuff and hardware is going to be built by an aftermarket company or supplier like teleflex, attwood, etc.

Or, you could take the opportunity to customize and make the boat truly your own!

Re: OEM or Replacement Parts!! PLEASE HELP

Be aware that the OEM of the piece of equipment may have either gone out of business or changed design and no longer services the older models.

Consider it the "challenge and rewards of original restoration" or "pain in the ***** danged old boats". Your choice :D
