Hi,
Purchased first blue water boat and now need the gear.
What are the main pros and cons of star drag or lever drag?

I've never done this before...so any tackle, gear, or advice of any kind would be greatly appreciated.

The short answer is PENN.Almost everything else on the market is copying this venerated American company.
I would always go with star drag on trolling gear. Same thing with deep water fishing. Not only does it do a superior job,but it is very easily replaced and for less than $10 dollars you will get the parts in the mail and in 5 minutes you will have a brand new star drag. That is the sort of stuff that is hard to beat.

Put your money into Penn reels and one piece rods.

What size of reels do you want. If you're going for stuff under say 30lbs the penns are hard to beat. I just left the penn corral for shimano trinadads in the bigger stuff, 5/0 and up, and Avet for my smaller stuff.
