View attachment 90322this is froman 800 80 HP might work i think it,s 4 cylinder View attachment 90315 I bought 2 startors and 2 switchboxes before I got tiered of getting old junk and found a new unit for 115.00 I,ll never ever have to worry about this part again (SWITCHBOX) should have done it in the first place but being i live on 700.00 a month and EBT i can only do so much at a time. That switchbox is one of the 2 best parts on the entire engine and the others on the way. it,s my profile picture. View attachment 90319View attachment 90320 before and after pics

the salmon (switchbox) colored wire with the black (igntion switch ground) and also goes to the mercury tilt kill switch remove that too. They are all the kill switch wires on the switchbox disconect them and see if theres spark... Just got back in from testing my terminals as pictured above use for reference ohm mter x 1 k set to zero GRND to blue 2 grnd to red Pegs to 0 grnd to salmon 2 grnd to wht 6 grnd to brwn 6 red to blue 2 brown to wht almost 1 grnd to yellow startor 2 other yellow from stator 2 yellow to yellow almost 0. if the salmon pegs or no result I would think ignition switch is shorting out or tilt switch. i just started using the meter and stil green at it

Re: oh crap, 1971 500 died

just followed the procedure I found on CDI electronics. gnd to blue fails((1.7Mohms and climbing) as well as green to gnd (20Mohms and climbing) both tests should be open.

double oh crap :(

I wonder if I can fix it the same as I did with a automotive MSD 6AL 3 years ago. I REALLY don't want to spend $300

I made anew post asking if 2 cylinder work with for cylinders like 3 cylinder SB works with 6 cylinder They look "exactly" like yours. There in canada he has 4 of the 30.00 each with 15.00 shipping not bad. The only difference is there is an A#3 after the numbers keep you eye on the NEW POST for answers tiered gonna quit for tonight good luck. you have the link in Notifications

Re: oh crap, 1971 500 died

found a new one in stock at partspak.com. everyone else wanted me to send it in and wait 2 or 3 weeks while making me spend over $300. they had 3 in stock at $266. it should be here either Sat. or Monday.

meanwhile I am removing the potting and preparing to reverse engineer my old one. I may try and rebuild it myself with the help of my electrical engineer brother.

Yes it will, the A3 is just a updated version. superseded A3,A4,A5 etc, etc. These were used on a wide variety of Models. If I am not mistaken 1972 they switched to a little different swithbox style 114-2986 or 332-2986 and a bunch of A versions as well. Here are a couple of pics showing the difference. On the 2986 type switchbox you have conections on both sides of the switchbox which the 3213 doesnt. If your distributor has 3 wires brown/black/white you would be using the 2986 type switchbox.

I suffered the same issues and found the culprit to be the main in-line fuse on the motor - the wire at one side of the fuse holder had become exposed and caused an arc to the block, blowing the fuse. I installed a new in-line fuse and have never had another issue. Good Luck!
