i was removing one of the 4 bolts that attach the lower unit to the exhaust housing. i removed 3 of them but the 4th broke the head off the bolt, should the lower unit still slide off?

If i'm thinking of the right year.

There are five bolts on that lower unit.

It should be by the trim tab. If the head completly sheered off the bolt once you get that fifth bolt off is should drop out. Make sure all the conections are loose like the shift rod.

Also there is an o ring on the top of the drive shaft sometimes it will take a hefty tug to get it to break loose.

Your welcome

Vicegrips should do the trick (If there is enough bolt left to grab on too).
