Look at this chart. For the "77 up 6 Cyl 9-15amp.

Here are the readings your looking for if you have OEM parts installed. Set your volt/ohm meter to AC. Mulitply the readings you get by 1.441 and it will get you very close to what a DVA adapter will do.

web page

I will give that a try tomorrow Trent. I sure appreciate the help. I did a ohm test on it today. I know very little about the igniton system but I will tell you what I got. I had my meter set to 20K and got 12.89 on the Blue to Blue/white. .27 on the red to red/white. Does that tell me anything? I should have my manueal tomorrow and actually know what I am doing.

You've got more than one output on that stator. There are three; battery, low speed charge & high speed charge. I've had no luck using the "square root of 2" trick on the charge coils, guessing the signal's not sinusoidal. Your manual should help. The webpage Trent referred you too will give you expected resistances across the various stator coils. In my limited experience, the low speed charge coils are the weak spot.

That is what I am guessing. THe last time she was out it was hard to start and ran rough at idle but once I reved it up it got pretty smooth. When I checked for spark at home I got three of six a little past idle. Now I can only get a very very weak spark sometimes.

Make sure all starter connections are clean and tight. Low speed starting will cause weak spark or no spark. She has to be turning at "full cranking speed".

Battery is turnign her planty I believe. Trent- can you help learn how to read my meter? I had it set to 20k. When it was at 2k it just stayed at a 1 reading. At 20 k I got 6.25 on blue/white to red/white. 6.36 on red to blue. Blue to blue/white is 12.89 and red to red/white was .27. My question is how do I read a measurement (ohms) when it is set on 20k.

On 2k I got -10.5 red to ground and -1.7 red/white to ground

Can someone tell me what the ohms should be from the blue to blue/white wires?
